Vijay went to a B-School, worked in the Banking and IT industries, and now tells stories for a living. He loves puns, history, stage, sarcasm, trivia, and words in general and is grateful that his work surrounds him with people who obsess about these even more. Vijay is the founder and Managing Director of Storytrails.
Storytrails (www.storytrails.in) is an organization that designs story-based walking tours and experiences.
These structured trails are an attempt to showcase the local way of life to visitors, through the medium of storytelling. Unlike sight-seeing tours, they do not attempt to show places in the city and typically do not revolve around tourist landmarks. Instead, they are designed to bring out fascinating stories that lie hidden behind ordinary everyday sights.
Tripadvisor ranks Storytrails as Chennai’s No.1 tour service. Storytrails has excellent reviews in many other leading travel publications like Lonely Planet (‘...highly recommended neighbourhood walking tours...’), and Frommer’s travel guide which rates it as ‘exceptional’, (‘...in many ways this is the best introduction to an Indian city...’). These trails are currently offered in Chennai, Madurai and Pondicherry.
The British Council presented Vijay with the ‘Young Creative Entrepreneur Award’ in 2012. Vijay was also awarded a Youth Achiever Award for ‘Innovative Entrepreneurship’ by Yuva Shakti. Storytrails has been a regular recipient of the ‘Certificate of Excellence’ from Tripadvisor and the ‘Top rated’ and ‘Best Local operator’ recognition from Viator.
Vijay is a regular guest speaker at social and cultural clubs, speakers’ forums and at leading educational institutions. He is an avid traveler, a complete foodie and a marathon runner.
